Job Purpose
Reporting to the Head of Financial Crime, as Transaction Monitoring Analyst you will be focusing on…
- Conduct daily transaction monitoring and alert reviews, investigating and assessing suspicious activity flagged by the firm’s monitoring system.
- Analyse complex FX and payment transactions to identify patterns or anomalies indicative of financial crime.
- Ensure alerts are handled promptly, accurately, and in compliance with internal policies and FCA guidelines.
- Assess customer profiles and risk ratings to determine whether transactions align with expected activity.
Duties/Responsibilities

- Accountable for understanding Consumer Duty policy and procedures; partnering and collaborating within the team to achieve set standards.
- Escalate potential suspicious activities to the Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) and prepare Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) as required.
- Document findings and decisions clearly and comprehensively to create an audit trail and support regulatory reporting.
- Assist in filing SARs with relevant authorities (e.g., the National Crime Agency) within stipulated deadlines.
- Work closely with the Compliance and Risk teams to enhance monitoring effectiveness and adapt to evolving financial crime trends.
- Provide support in reviewing and updating transaction monitoring policies, procedures, and risk typologies.
- Assist in the ongoing tuning and improvement of transaction monitoring systems and thresholds.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of FCA regulations, AML/CTF legislation, and other relevant UK/EU financial crime guidelines.
- Contribute to regular reporting, trend analysis, and management information (MI) reports for senior management and regulatory submissions.
- Ensure all transaction monitoring activities comply with internal standards and FCA requirements.
- Participate in training to keep abreast of regulatory changes, industry developments, and emerging financial crime risks.
- Support ongoing reviews of transaction monitoring processes to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and coverage of financial crime risks.
Qualification & Experience
Essential :
- A recent background in dealing with transaction monitoring risks
- Analytical and critical thinking skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Expert attention to detail
- Experience with transaction monitoring software
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data sets and identify unusual transaction patterns
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, particularly in documenting cases and liaising with stakeholders
Desirable
- At least 2 years’ experience in an Authorised Payments Institution or Electronic Money Institution
- WLB
- 1-2 years’ experience in a Money Service Business (MSB) offering Money Remittance and Foreign Exchange
- Demonstrated understanding of the unique risk posed to MSBs from a money laundering perspective
- Relevant financial crime or AML certifications (e.g., ICA, ACAMS, or equivalent) are an advantage
